Shopping is what Dubai is best known for, whether it’s for bargains on electronics and gold jewellery or half-priced designer apparels and branded accessories. Dubai is the Middle Easts’ shopping hub, with over 14 million square feet (and counting) dedicated to shopping malls alone. A myriad of Dubai shopping malls are located all over the city and with the recent opening of Dubai Mall, which is the world’s largest one-stop-shopping venue, Dubai is not to be taken lightly when it concerns a shopping spree. You will never be at a loss for a Dubai shopping mall, because there’s at least one at every corner. The mall culture is prominent in Dubai, with shopping malls taking the first place among popular hangouts for the teenagers and simple leisure for the adults.
It may sound so cliché, but Dubai really is the shopper’s paradise. Dubai shopping malls include the likes of gigantic Mall of the Emirates, housing every imaginable item in a massive range of outlets, not to mention the ever-popular Ski Dubai, the largest indoor ski slope. Ibn Battuta Mall is another mega scale shopping venue, offering diverse goods housed in special sections of the mall divided into country-specific outlets, such as Persia, China and India. The newly opened Dubai Mall comprises 440,000 square feet and sets benchmarks for luxury, scale, design and retail selling through 1200 outlets and variety entertainment and leisure facilities. A relatively peaceful and more elite shopping experience can be found at the BurJuman, with designer shopping as its standard offerings. The Mercato Mall in Jumeirah is a little Italy to enjoy at leisure.
Smaller and older shopping malls are scattered throughout Dubai and these are good for general shopping. Shopping in Dubai is not complete unless you drop in at the traditional souqs and bazaars, but for the avid shopper, there’s no place similar to a Dubai shopping mall to grab the best bargains on every conceivable goody.
