Eating – we all need to do that, no matter where we are. When you are in Dubai, you won’t be found wanting for a place to eat, because Dubai does its restaurants and cafes like nowhere else. The population in Dubai consists of expatriates in a 9:1 ratio in comparison to the citizens (referred to as UAE nationals).

So, it’s no surprise that there’s a huge range of cuisines available in Dubai, from traditional Arabic and contemporary Continental to Indian, Pakistani and African delicacies. If you take a stroll along s street in Dubai, you’ll find at least two or three small cafes, selling snacks, large meals and a variety of fruit drinks and types of tea.

But, if you are not used to stall food and not too keen on eating at a cafeteria located between two motor parts stores (which is very likely how you’ll find them), you should opt to visit a nearby mall. The Dubai shopping malls have extensive food courts, offering a large range of cuisines, mostly Chinese, South Indian, Tex-Mex, Japanese, Iranian and traditional Arabic food. Besides the food court, you’ll find five to ten restaurants within each mall, serving specialised cuisine.

There are plenty of cafes and coffee shops, including Starbucks and Gloria Jeans. Ice cream parlours are everywhere, serving the entire range from Haagen-Das to Baskin Robbins. You will find the worldwide fast food franchises here as well, including McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Krème to name a few. Healthier food franchises in Dubai include Subway and Quiznos.

Hotel restaurants and cafes serve the best of the best, palate tantalising cuisine. They are equally expensive too. While eating out in Dubai, you can expect to dish out approximately $10 per person, per meal at restaurants and about one fourth of that in roadside cafes. Hotel meals will cost you a lot more, often over $20 per person, per meal.
